Doubting castle 3: flipped lecture – Basic audio editing

Audio plays an important role in the broadcast. In addition, adding sounds into a film can create an impression of reality to audiences. A film editor, Walter Murch, who is also a sound designer, remarks ‘the most successful sounds seems not only to alter what the audience sees but to go further and trigger a kind of conceptual resonance between image and sound: the sound makes us see the image differently, and this new images makes us hear the sound differently, which in turns makes us see something else in the image, which makes us hear different things in the sound, and so on’ (Graeme 2009).

Combining Sound and Image together may create a new horizon as well as a different meaning. In my opinion, a successful movie should have its own background music which is just fitting with to express a certain atmosphere or a spirit. Take the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 for example, when I heard the background music Drink up me Hearties, I found that it is quite difficult to describe the state of my mind, but whatever it is, it helped me to focus on the scene and elicited my feelings. Moreover, the song brought me into the film and made me feel the aggressive,  powerful and strong enthusiasm to win.

Getting best sounds as you can when you are shooting is the basic requirement which can help you reduce some audio problems when you are editing. But if you really get some problem with the audio, problems can be solved by using Audacity.

Audacity is a free, open source, cross- platform software for recording and editing sounds. It can be used for all types of audio. For media student, it is really a good source to make a beautiful sound while edit a project.

These steps will introduce the basic steps commonly used when editing the contents of an audio file.

1. Step 1: Find a file to edit.
2. Step 2: Import the file into Audacity.
3. Step 3: Look at the waveform.
4. Step 4: Listen to the imported audio.
5. Step 5: Create a 10-second clip from your audio.
6. Step 6: Fade out the last second.

We will not to use Audacity for sound track editing with our digital story because we will not to consider adding any sound into the digital stroy. We are doing the text-based interactive game with image. The only sound we can add into the digital story is back ground music I suppose. But I’d like to learn more about audio editing which will be used in the future.

Doubting castle 1: Flipped lecture

I like Photoshop, which is a professional image-editing software. First of all, I like it because image editing is fun. And then I am trying to cover the fact that I am not good at photographing. I want to create things, atmospheres and such, that weren’t necessarily there.  I use Photoshop frequently in this semester, with a Wacom pen to create 2D animation by drawing pictures in the Photoshop.  Photo editing probably be added into our digital story because we have to make a text- based interactive game with picture. The pictures we download from website are not allowed to be used in our project due to the copyright. So we can change the picture to another way such as oil paint which can be done in Photoshop. The digital image editing flipped lecture reveals the basic knowledge of image editing. For example, how to open and save your image. This lecture is a good for those beginner to make some simple layer. To improve your skills, I recommend ‘Lynda’, which is a privately held online education company offering thousands of video courses in software, creative, and business skills. You may find a lot of detailed video tutorials of Photoshop taught by experts. They will teach you selective coloring, lines and the rule of thirds. And any other software can be found in Lynda as well, such as Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effect which is useful to us in the future learning. An example of Photoshop, I create the onion by drawing with a Wacom pen in Photoshop which can be used in my recipe of India food.
